Every year, come May, my camp friends and I start counting down the days until another summer at Camp Nyoda commences. We anticipate the new memories that will come with every year, the bonds that will grow stronger, and the activities and songs that are the foundation of camp. Being the oldest in camp this past summer made the summer of 2018 really special. The girls in my bung(Tiamalia) took on new responsibilities such as team captains, leading Sunday activity, and even carrying conversations at meals. This past summer, camp taught me the true meaning of being a leader; that you must not lead with words, but by example. Every summer at camp is a summer well spent, but my Tiamalia year was more than special. I made unbreakable bonds with girls inside and out of my age group; creating an everlasting support from one another. Being the oldest in camp, I was also able to form different types of friendships with the counselors that I may not have been able to in my first year of camp (2013). I have never felt closer to a group of people than I did in 2018. We shared the same hopes and fears of the school year to come, supporting each other through every thought or idea that came across of what Sophomore year would be like. I was able to receive advice about my own personal problems from counselors and other campers. This year I felt that I came out of my shell more than I ever had, and I was able to have fun with whatever I did. Nyoda become my one and only home in 2018 and I wouldn’t change anything about my summer.

Looking back, summer 2018 was one of the most amazing summers I had ever experienced at Camp Nyoda. Since it was my last summer as a camper, my bunkmates and I cherished every moment that we spent together. We knew that this could be our final time all together in one place, so from the start we took this summer in stride. One of the best parts about this summer was getting to both be in team show and watch my friends perform as well. We had to push ourselves to memorize a song, perfect our scenes, and become comfortable with a script in less than three days. By the teams learning how to work together, both shows turned out amazing in the end. Since my friends were supporting me the whole time, I felt confident when it finally came time to perform our team show. Thanks to my amazing friends, summer 2018 at Nyoda was one of the best summers yet.
